#23 | The Safety And Joy Of Love

January 23, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageLaviniaAndJay

Yesterday our fellow podcaster Lavinia celebrated 10 years of matrimony with her husband Jay, the love of her life.

Her sweet words to him:

Swirling winds and inches, then feet of snow fell around the little church where we stood together and promised to love, honor and cherish each from that day forward. And for 10 years, when the rest of the world around us is crazy and hateful, we continue to find safety and joy in each other’s arms and love. Happy Anniversary, Jay.

For all the scoffers and naysayers who would try to dissuade Black women from expanding their dating and marriage options to find love and longevity in their relationships, please have a seat.

Happy Anniversary, Lavinia and Jay!

#12 | Relationships Are What We DO

January 12, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimage_JamieAndJuJuF12

Today’s quote specifically mentions marriage, yet we believe the concept is applicable to any relationship:

Friendship is not a noun; it’s a verb. It isn’t something you get. It’s something you do.

Sisterhood is not a noun; it’s a verb. It isn’t something you get. It’s something you do.

Partnership is not a noun; it’s a verb. It isn’t something you get. It’s something you do.

Relationships: It’s what we do!

When A White Man Thinks He’s Golden

October 20, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

All White men are GOLDEN!

Um . . . NOT!

a sad mature woman

Here’s one way you can recognize when a White man thinks he’s golden – and make sure you don’t fall for the okey-doke.

Yours Truly, ever on the lookout to preserve and protect the interests of Black women, decided to share some of my observations on a specific red flag Black women should pay attention to when dating or seeking to build a relationship with a White man.

I think I’m going to call it “The Golden Syndrome.”

Give it a listen, and feel free to leave a message in the comments to let me know what you think.

Have you met a White man who was stricken with “The Golden Syndrome?” Tell me all about it!

When Family Does You Wrong

July 28, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

Lorraine SpencerHas a member of your family ever done you wrong?

I’m talking about wrong.

When the incident occurred, did other family members try to act like YOU were the problem?

Lorraine Spencer, Interracial Blogging Pioneer, Dating Coach and self-described “Information Broker,” rejoins Adrienne and me to discuss her new book, When Family Does You Wrong.

Lorraine shares the riveting story of how she and her family lost their home and possessions, and were forced to start over – all as the result of being deceived by a family member.

Lorraine is the publisher of the Swirling and Marriage blog and posts articles on Beyond Black & White under the name “Swirl Queen.”

We appreciate Lorraine’s willingness to be so transparent. Adrienne and I have both read the book and we highly recommend it.

In addition to listening in iTunes, you can also listen to this episode on Sound Cloud.

Podcast Episode 017b: You Know YOU’RE Cray-Cray When . . . . Part 2 (Special Guest: Eugenia Berg)

July 26, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway 1 Comment

Eugenia Berg 3Hopefully by now you’ve listened to Part 1 of “You Know YOU’RE Cray-Cray When . . . . “ featuring our special guest and beloved friends,  blogger and vlogger Mrs. Eugenia Berg of the blog/vlog “Married Girl In A Weird World.”

In between the laughter and hilarity, Eugenia shared some truths and great vetting pointers – all of which she is known for. Check out her vlogs on vetting by clicking here and here.

In this episode, Adrienne, Eugenia and me each share our take (and Eugenia shares some experiences) on what constitutes “Cray-Cray” in dating – crazy habits and “first date” shenanigans that kill a relationship before it even begins. Texting, stalking, random behavior – you name it!

Our girl Eugenia is expecting TWINS and has only one more month to go, so she’s on hiatus.  Please send lots of love and prayers her way!

We hope to have her back on the show at some point in the future.

Until then, you would do well to go check out Eugenia’s blog and give the podcast a listen!

You Know YOU’RE Cray Cray When . . . .

July 22, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway 1 Comment

4SCdDBZIuTyqnFAc6n8kv4M4q87wAMUxqR024e2hb0gCray Cray – What can I say?

Here in The Swirl World, we just love, love, LOVE blogger and vlogger Mrs. Eugenia Berg of the blog/vlog “Married Girl In A Weird World.”

We love her wit, her charm, her wisdom and above all her PASSION for Black women.

When we interviewed her for Podcast Episode 003, we asked her to be on standby because we KNEW we wanted to have her on the show again.

You Know You’re Cray-Cray When . . . .

Whelp, when we went through a stretch of emails from readers telling us some of the “cray-cray” things they were doing (that’s right – they were doing some cray-cray things, y’all) we contacted her to join us in coming up with some dating actions and practices that identified people as sho ’nuff cray to the cray, cray, CRAY.

Eugenia was up for the task and made time to talk with us. We appreciate that – especially since she and her handsome hubby are now expecting TWINS! Woot Woot!)

Here’s a BONUS (see how much we love you?):

Want some FREE coaching on Vetting? Eugenia’s blog is a premiere source. You can find just about everything you need to know on the subject by watching her vlogs on the subject and clicking here and here.

Doing podcasts with Eugenia is always a blast. We know she’s going to be busy with twins Axel and Lionel, but we promise to have her on as often as they time permits!

Entrepreneur & CEO Shun Jackson-Shell

July 2, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

Shun Jackson-ShellRecently on the podcast I had the pleasure to chat with Shun Jackson-Shell, CEO of ShunJack, a virtual assistance and small business consulting practice. Through ShunJack, she provides a range of services that include administrative business support, website development, social media management, and graphics and designs.

Shun has sterling credentials. She graduated twice from Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Masters of Arts in Management.

Currently, Shun is just 5 classes away from completing her MBA at Texas A&M-Commerce. Woot! Woot!

Through her education at Dallas Baptist University and Texas A&M-Commerce, Shun has learned the true meaning of what it takes to serve others. In the future, she plans to use a portion of her company profits to support causes that cater to the families of U.S. veterans and single mothers.

If you’re a Black woman entrepreneur, you’ll find this show particularly interesting. Shun is very transparent about her journey, and speaks candidly about the mental processes she undertook to position herself for success.

Near the end of the podcast, Shun shares an interesting perspective on Black women Swirling, and talks about her experiences with Swirling in The Big D – Dallas, TX.

Podcast Episode 008: Irish College Student Patrick J. Browne

June 22, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

One of the things I LOVE about The Swirl World is the fact that we’ve been blessed to make international connections with guys from around the world.

Guys like this gorgeous, green-eyed hottie:

Patrick J. Browne 2

In The Swirl World, we’re all about building relationship, not tearing them down.

In addition to having Aussie Michael Miocevich on our team, we’ve also been blessed with Patrick J. Browne, a college student currently living in Dublin, Ireland.

By the way, Patrick’s Irish brogue is the sexy voice you hear at the beginning and end of each of our podcast episodes.

In addition to serving as our “Go to” guy for all things audio/visual/technical, Patrick also creates content on The Swirl World’s Facebook page.

Ah, that Patrick! He’s such a cutie:

Patrick J. Browne

Patrick reached out to us last year, informing us that he loved The Swirl World and wanted to participate in a greater capacity.

He’s been on our team ever since and it’s safe to say he holds a special place in our hearts – Adrienne calls him her son and that automatically makes him my godson.

We had a blast with him in this impromptu conversation.

WARNING: There is a LOT of laughter going on in this episode!

“I Love Black Women!”

June 19, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

Mark Custard 3Adrienne and I enjoyed a great conversation with Mark Custard, a White guy who proudly proclaims, “I love Black women!”

Mark’s a native of Buffalo, NY and has dated Black women almost exclusively since 9th grade.

He makes some interesting observations – namely, that in his first interracial relationship he didn’t care or pay any attention to the ethnicity of his girlfriend – what he enjoyed was all about how much fun they had and how she made him feel.

Give the podcast a listen.

Good news:

Mark is joining The Swirl World team with a new column, “On Another Note.” He’s also going to join us on some upcoming podcast episodes. Woot! Woot!

This Girl Is On FIRE – Gynger Fyer!

June 16, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway 2 Comments

Gynger Fyer The Romance Arsonist

She’s Hott!

She’s Hott!

This girl is on Fire!!!!

Gynger Fyer, that is!

The Swirl World was smoking hot in Podcast 006 because our guest was none other than:

Gynger Fyer, The Romance Arsonist.

You heard read right: Gynger Fyer, The Romance Arsonist..

Gynger is an interracial romance author – and not just any old interracial romance: Gynger writes erotic interracial romance novels.

Imma let that marinate.

Mmm hmmm.

Ahem.

Here’s a little more on Gynger:

Gynger Fyer (pronounced Ginger Fire) prides herself on writing stories as unique, spicy and fiery as her name. An avid reader and fan of interracial romance and erotic fiction, she now has the pleasure of writing entertaining stories about love, romance, and relationships.

Gynger loves to explore the endless possibilities and outcomes of her characters meeting and falling in love. For her, it all starts with one question…”WHAT IF?”

“What if?” indeed!

Gynger just released a new book: Under The Bayou Moon. It’s her first paranormal interracial romance and she tells us all about it in the podcast.

Don’t tell my Mama I have it all loaded and ready to read on my Kindle rat nah . . . . yeah, baby!

Gynger Fyer Under The Bayou Moon Book Cover

Chatting with Gynger was an absolute blast. She’s warm, witty and so very personable.

(Just so you know, Gynger was so much fun, she’s coming back for another episode on a different topic! Stay tuned.)

If you’ve been wanting to write romance novels and don’t have a clue about how to begin, then listen up because Gynger gives the steps she took. She also tells us her secret to “finding the time” to write.

We discussed life, love, breaking into the field of writing romance novels and what she does to write . . . erotica!

Listen to the episode and get an earful. Woot Woot!
