You Know You’ve Had A Good Time When . . . .

July 26, 2013 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway 1 Comment

You know you’ve had a good time when afterward, you need to r.e.c.u.p.e.r.a.t.e!

Last night’s soiree was off the chain! I had a blast at the Meet & Greet two weeks ago, so the actual event was the Meet & Greet on steroids.

Stars of Style Invite

Glitz and glamour everywhere – the women were gorgeous and the men even more so. (Tee hee hee!)

I can’t scoop my magazine and provide a lot of pictures, so I’ll be sure to follow-up with links next Friday when the issue hits the stands.

I’m HAPPY to report that I saw FOUR Swirl Couples last night.

Side Note: The event had over 450 people so that’s a relatively small ratio, but still. That’s far better than saying I saw ZERO Swirl Couples, right? Right.

I’m even HAPPIER to report that two of the couples were BW/WM Swirls – one older couple, and one younger. The other two were BM/WW couples.

Any who, I now need to recover from all that fun.

WHY am I still awake????

 . . . .clothes, that is!

I’m attending a swanky event Thursday night so I’m making like Cinderella and trying on different outfits and jewelry.

Technically I’ll be working behind the scenes covering this event, but hey! Girls just wanna look nice while they work.

The Explanation . . . .

July 12, 2013 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway 4 Comments

labeling-boxes-for-moving

. . . . I moved!

Yeppers, I condensed my 7 day countdown to 3 days.

I thought about it and thought about it, and figured, why not? The fact that I also had to attend a posh Meet & Greet cocktail party last night pushed me over the edge. Might as well leave the party and go straight to my new digs here (and drive 3 miles or less) instead of traveling 40+ miles.

I thought you’d understand.

I got in very late and was too tired to configure my wi-fi. I tried to post from my iPad and experienced another #fail. I had a couple of new hoops to jump through to do that and I was too tired to jump – hence the 3-word post I wound up with.

So, I’m here, and I’m already loving it.

Footnotes:

FYI, the party was a smashing success. My flirting social skills are still very much intact.

*Pats self on back*

The Great Social Experiment has already begun – and I haven’t even officially launched it yet!

Stay tuned, because next week you’ll learn all the details. You and I, my fellow Swirl Guys and Girls, are about to embark on a purposeful adventure designed to romantically up the ante on the remaining 5 months of this year.

We are going to Make. Life. Happen.

Go ahead and pull out your old microscope and wash those dusty Petri dishes. Sharpen your pencils and get ready to take lots of notes, because there will be homework.

Already married? No worries; you can still participate. Your goals will be different, yet there’s no reason you can’t shake things up right along with us.

Enjoy your weekend. I advise you to rest up, because next week it’s gonna be on.

Party Over Here!

June 15, 2013 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway 2 Comments

keep-calm-and-party-on-6429

This is family reunion weekend on my Dad’s side. In between doing work on the dissertation and doing mental push ups in Firepole’s Business Ignition Bootcamp, I’m partying like a rock star and enjoying my family.

My Mother’s side of the family is very quiet and very conservative. My Dad’s side is  the exact opposite – very loud and very liberal. We even have a couple of BM/WW Swirl couples on that side. Woot! Woot!

I truly have the best of both worlds, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Pink Party Over Here!

April 20, 2013 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway 2 Comments

A couple of years ago my major home base shifted from Texas to Louisiana.  I have to say, one of the great things about Southwest Louisiana (besides the food) is the fact that you can pretty much always find a Festival or a party on any given weekend.

Last Saturday night I had the pleasure of attending a “VIPink Party” given by the Lafayette chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation to raise money and honor breast cancer survivors. The blinged out pink affair was held at the Cypress Bayou Casino & Hotel in Charenton, LA  (another thing about SW LA is that things aren’t pronounced the way they are spelled. “Charenton” is pronounced “Cher-ruh-ton” – and make sure you say it really fast!)

VIP PARTY LOGO

I’d heard quite a bit about the Casino but hadn’t had the opportunity to visit. We had to walk through the Casino to get to the banquet room which meant I had to walk past the mindless Zombies seated at the slot machines and the fanatics at the crap table.

The sights and sounds were awesome! Here are some highlights:

We walked in on the "Pink Carpet"

The table decorations were gorgeous:

Pink, pink everywhere . . . .

VIPink TABLE DECORATION 2

Dinner was a fabulous buffet, complete with pink butter for our panini-grilled bread:

PINK BUTTER

and dessert was . . . well . . . pink:

PINK SWEETS

(Yes, not only is that a pink Rice Krispy Treat, that’s a pink praline over on the right. Yes. Exactly.)

After dinner comes dancing. We were treated to old school jams from the band Krossfyre:

KROSSFYRE 2

Everybody loves old school jams . . . (even when they get off step):

And what’s a Southwest Louisiana party without some good rockin’ Zydeco?

See the rub-board he’s wearing? My Grandmother used to play one, only hers wasn’t nearly so fancy. It wasn’t a “body” one, either – just the good, old-fashioned scrubbing board (some people call it a wash board) framed in wood.

RUB BOARD

She held it up to her chin in the crook of her arm like it was a fiddle. The “pick” she used to play it? Visualize a wire clothes hanger. Fold the long sides in half. See the hook at the top? That’s the part she “scratched” with!

All in all, it was a wonderful night and I had a great time. I was happy to participate in such a worthy cause, and look forward to more of the same.

Next up: Festival International de Louisiane kicks off this week, April 24-28! ! Woot Woot!
