This Is My Confession: I Got In My Feelings

July 24, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageSERIOUS_BW

So yesterday, I got in my feelings – but not because of a guy.

(I mean, who gets in their feelings over a man, right???)

*_*

So, I did a Periscope yesterday, and I don’t mind admitting: I got in my feelings.

What’s Periscope, you ask?

Periscope is a new social media platform Twitter launched in March. ‘Scopers stream their broadcasts in real time and viewers can log on to watch via the web, Twitter notifications, or by using iOS and Android-based app on smart phones and tablets.

Just imagine Twitter and YouTube having a baby – and you have Periscope.

To learn more about this new platform, click here to check out this comprehensive, yet easy-to-read article written by Systems Expert Alaia Williams.

Anyway, got in my feelings yesterday.

Watch the replay, and I believe you’ll understand why.

Periscope video from July 23, 2015.

I’m on Periscope @ASwirlGirl. Feel free to follow me, and if you jump on one of my Scopes, be sure to holla at me in the comments. I’d love to follow you back!

A Conversation With Demita Usher – Part 2

July 15, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

Demita UsherToday’s podcast features Part 2 of a conversation I held on May 10 with Demita Usher, aka “Brown Betty.”

Demita was a champion of Black women’s causes, and passionate about women learning to not only enjoy, but leverage their femininity.

This episode was recorded on May 10 in anticipation of the website launch of Demita’s business centering on providing teaching and training on etiquette and manners.

Demita passed away the morning of June 14.

Part 1 of the conversation with Demita is available on iTunes, Sound Cloud, Stitcher Radio or PlayerFM.

Demita was nothing if she wasn’t passionate! I hope you’re enjoying the conversation as much as I did.

If you can’t see the podcast player, click here or here.

If you can’t see the Sound Cloud player, click here. You can also head over and listen to the show on iTunes, Stitcher Radio or PlayerFM.

Demita Usher was the Founder and Director of The Social Graces and Savoir Faire Institute of Etiquette. She taught classes for several years to adults and children alike. Demita was in the process of writing a book on Charm and Etiquette for Teens. She resided in Los Angeles, California.

#187| No Regrets

July 6, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageYoungBlackWoman_NoRegrets

This weekend I uploaded Part 1 of my conversation with Demita Usher, aka “Brown Betty.”

She suddenly passed away on June 14 at the age of 42.

Demita’s death really shook up many of us in the interracial blogging space.

She was passionate and vibrant, and believed in living life to the fullest.

With everything happening in the world, I’ve deepened my resolve to do the same.

I intend to live my life with no excuses, which for me, guarantees that I will enjoy a life with no regrets.

I pray you’re doing the same.

You can listen to Part 1 of my final conversation with Demita on Sound Cloud, iTunes, Stitcher Radio or PlayerFM. Part 2 will be posted Wednesday.

“I am self-propelled; fueled from within.

I appreciate people’s opinions, but I’m not attached to them.

I learned a long time ago that if I give them the power to feed me, I also give them the power to starve me.”

~Steve Maraboli

Now, more than ever, let’s dig deep and become fueled from within.

Demita Usher, an interracial blogger, book author and entrepreneur popularly known as “Brown Betty,” passed away suddenly yesterday morning.

She was 42.

Today’s photo of Demita was first presented on February 6, 2015 when she was featured in our Inspirational Daily post.

I was blessed to do a podcast with Demita on May 10, in anticipation of her new website launch.

Out of respect for Demita’s family during this difficult time, we will air her podcast episode after the final services.

Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.

We’re happy and we’re living the dream, doing what we love and making a positive difference in the lives of thousands of people.

Joseph says, “Thirty years with the love of my life. Celebrating 27 years of marriage on June 3 2015. Just getting started. That’s my baby!!”

What does living the dream mean in your life?

#153| Create Something Amazing

June 2, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageCreateSomethingAmazing

I’m in a special Facebook group formed by Michelle Y. Talbert of the Her Power Hustle website and podcast.

With the onset of a new week, yesterday Michelle put forth this post:

“Happy Monday Sister Power Hustlers! I’ve found setting my intention to be really helpful for focusing and EDITING/saying no to things that don’t further our goals. That being said, what’s your intention for this week?

My response?

My intention is to create something amazing: A mini course.

What’s yours?

Aptly named “Sister Power Hustle,” of the Facebook group Michelle says, “This community was birthed out of my deep desire to help women entrepreneurs get the information we need to create and sustain our businesses. Through shared resources and networking we can go much further in business than we ever could alone.”

If you’re on Facebook and you’d like to join the Sister Power Hustle Facebook group, click here.
