Celebrating and Elevating Black Women - mind, body, soul and spirit!
Contrary to popular belief, Black women are NOT a monolith. We pursue interests as diverse as our skin tones and hair textures!
In this podcast episode, podcast Co-host Adrienne London Leach chats with Tobi-Velicia Johnson. A Chicago native, Tobi is a Francophile who speaks fluent French, loves and practices ballet, and takes classes on Judaism.
Tobi says,
“I’m a 52-year-old Francophile who loves Paris, ballet, and fashion! I take ballet classes for fun and exercise; I enjoy attending ballet performances, Shakespeare plays and the opera.
I travel to Paris as much as I can–my next trip to Paris is coming up in September, so currently I am actively refreshing my French-speaking skills.”
To us, Tobi personifies the diversity of accomplished Black women. We’re every woman – it’s all in us.
And as we love to say to Black women here in The Swirl World, “You are beautiful, You are powerful, You are EVERYTHING!”
Tobi is an inspiration. She shared some of her photos with us documenting her travels, interest in Judaism, and love for ballet. Enjoy!

Say what? Is life something you can design?
According to our podcast guest, “life is something you either live by design, or by default.”
Well, we certainly don’t believe anyone wants to live their life by simply going through the motions. Who wants to function on autopilot?
Not only do we want to live in the moment, we want to be an active participant in our own lives.
Our podcast guest shows us how.
In this episode, Podcast Co-Host Adrienne London Leach chats with bestselling author, speaker, lifestyle and digital strategist Nancy Gathecha.

In this podcast episode, Adrienne, Rachel and I engage in a candid, unscripted conversation about women who do the most.
The Urban Dictionary describes “doing the most” as:
“When a person is doing too much or when a person is doing more than what the situation calls for or beyond the call of duty.”
In other words, women who are on #TeamTooMuch.
We cover 4 important factors a woman Dating With Purpose should avoid at all costs.

“Oh, it’s just a fetish.”
“He doesn’t really like her for her; he just wants to fulfill a fantasy.”
SIGH.
Let a non-Black man express his attraction to or, God forbid, preference for Black women. Someway, somehow this nasty little word pops up:
Fetish.
I’ve heard the word fetish so many times in connection with Back women, I wish I’d been given $5 every times my eyes or ears were assaulted by the term.
If a non-Black man is attracted to or prefers Black women, why does the word “fetish” always pop up?
In other words, know what in the world you’re talking about before you use certain words. Doing so usually involves knowing what words mean.
That means taking the time to look words up so you can know the true definition of the word.
Can a non-Black man have the wrong motives for wanting to become involved with a Black woman? Can he possibly have a desire to fulfill some “I wanna sleep with a Black woman fantasy?”
Of course he can!
But what he has isn’t a fetish – what he has are wrong motives. And guess what? Wrong motives are something any man can have.
He can also be racist. That’s why it’s important to learn how to vet, and vet properly.
To hear more about how to vet a racist, click here. To learn more about vetting, click here.
In this podcast episode, I define the meaning of the word fetish. I also debunk some of the misconceptions and myths.
Give it a listen, and let me know what you think!
