#293| Take Me Higher

We encounter “rungs” in different places; mainly on our jobs or maybe at school.

But you know what? We can also elect to leverage the mental and emotional rungs we face.

In order to “go higher,” we have to elevate our mindset.

Let’s take our ideas, creativity and critical thinking skills and use them as rungs in life’s “ladders” to soar to new heights of accomplishment.

And even after we have achieved the goals we set and reached certain heights, let’s look at those experiences and say, “Take me higher!”

No Excuses!

Many times people resort to making excuses concerning why they can’t “get ahead” or “catch a break.”

They blame others for holding them back or standing in their way, and give up at the slightest hint of opposition. Still others refuse even to start.

Madam C.J. Walker, an African American entrepreneur and first self-made woman millionaire, lived in a time when opportunities were slim indeed.

Being Black and a woman, she had any number of “strikes” against her, yet she absolutely refused to allow herself to become boxed in by her ethnicity, circumstances or gender.

Craving an opportunity? Need a start? Then take a page from Madame Walker’s book and give yourself a start.

Don’t wait for an opportunity to happen – you make it happen!

Here in The Swirl World, we’re all about self-love and self-confidence.

Of course we believe in setting goals, up leveling and doing whatever it takes to become better.

Each of us is a work in progress – we get that.

Nevertheless, during the process of going from good, to better, to your best self, we encourage you to love yourself right where you are.

You are unique and special.

So much so, only one edition of you exists!

If you dare to love yourself – and love yourself right, you’ll strive to make choices that are in your best interest.

Yes, you’ll help others and serve mankind, but in doing so you won’t leave you behind.

Go ahead: Dare to love yourself.

Dare to love yourself as if you were a rainbow with gold at both ends.

Go ahead.

Love yourself Just. That. Much.

#258| Who Needs Your Gifts?

Somebody needs my gifts! And they need yours.

Someone, somewhere, needs what you have to offer.

You’ve been uniquely designed to make a difference in that person’s life.

You – with your specific personality, your specific experiences and your specific gifts.

Have you ever had this happen: You engaged in a conversation with someone; maybe a coworker, family member and possibly even a perfect stranger.

As you conversed, you discovered that you were able to speak to something that individual was going through – because at some point in your life, you had experienced something very similar.

Or, maybe you had not shared the experience, yet you knew to whom you should direct the individual, or you were aware of the resources that could solve their problem.

Maybe, just maybe, you possessed the skills and resources to make a difference in that person’s life.

Who needs your gifts?

Someone does.

Stay open and attuned to your surroundings and the people with whom you come in contact – and watch what happens.

#251| Do You Have Enough?

Here on the blog I tend to talk quite a bit about setting and reaching goals and achieving.

I know why I do this: It’s because setting goals – and achieving them – is a huge part of my life (and has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember).

I push myself to succeed, and my friends will tell you I also push them to succeed.

And you know what? I also want you to succeed.

“Success” is defined differently for each of us, and that’s ok.

The goal (see what I did there?) is to strive for whatever success means to us, and to be willing to take the steps required to obtain that success.

In today’s quote, Lou Holtz says, “If you’re bored with life — you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things — you don’t have enough goals.”

I agree with him!

If you’re constantly feeling bored, I have to ask “Do you have enough goals?”

How about we take the word “bored” out of our vocabulary, and instead replace it with descriptions of the activities, hobbies and – watch for it – goals – we are reaching for.

I challenge you to banish boredom, and get some things done instead.
