#258| Who Needs Your Gifts?

September 15, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway 7 Comments

shareasimage_KAYWANDA

Somebody needs my gifts! And they need yours.

~Kaywanda Lamb

Someone, somewhere, needs what you have to offer.

You’ve been uniquely designed to make a difference in that person’s life.

You – with your specific personality, your specific experiences and your specific gifts.

Have you ever had this happen: You engaged in a conversation with someone; maybe a coworker, family member and possibly even a perfect stranger.

As you conversed, you discovered that you were able to speak to something that individual was going through – because at some point in your life, you had experienced something very similar.

Or, maybe you had not shared the experience, yet you knew to whom you should direct the individual, or you were aware of the resources that could solve their problem.

Maybe, just maybe, you possessed the skills and resources to make a difference in that person’s life.

Who needs your gifts?

Someone does.

Stay open and attuned to your surroundings and the people with whom you come in contact – and watch what happens.

Kaywanda Lamb is featured in today’s inspirational post. Kaywanda uses her gifts and talents to help single moms overcome obstacles and “Do it anyway!”

Join in the Fray: What are your gifts? How can you use them to benefit others?

Book Review: The Stranger By Harlan Coben

June 16, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageBookReview1

I learned my ABC’s at a very early age and began reading not soon after.

With the exception of gumbo, ice cream and popcorn, I can think of few things I love more than BOOKS.

Along the same line, there’s almost no other place I’d rather be than a library or a bookstore, and very few things I enjoy more than reading or listening to audio books.

With that being said, I’m pleased to announce a new addition to the blog:

Book Reviews!

My friend Karen Talley launched a YouTube channel to present book reviews. Like me, she’s a certified bibliophile and loves a good book – and she’s read enough of them to know the difference!

We’re going to share Karen’s book reviews as she posts them, so stay tuned.

Here, Kay reviews The Stranger by Harlan Coben.

#84| Write It Yourself!

March 25, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageMechalRoe84M

Reading is one of my absolute favorite things to do, and writing is a close second.

I can think of few places I’d rather be than in a library or bookstore.

I’m especially proud of the fact that here in The Swirl World, we feature a number of authors who have decided to take Toni Morrison’s advice:

If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, you must be the one to write it.

Mechal Renée Roe grew up as a child from a mixed shade family. She looked for a book that addressed some of the things she experienced with her hair – a book that celebrated the uniqueness of Black women’s hair in all its glory.

She couldn’t find the book she was looking for – and today, she’s the author and illustrator of Happy Hair!

To listen to her story and learn more about her book, click here.

So, what about you? What do you want to read? Have you been able to find it?

If not, why not write it yourself?

Podcast 052: The Power Of Black Women’s Preferences–And Images

January 10, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageSepia

So, at the end of 2014 in Podcast Episode 049 we gave you a sneak peek into a podcast with Sepia, author of multicultural and multiracial erotic romance.

Sepia just released a new book entitled Prescriptions For the Soul: 100+ Dosages of Daily Wisdom, available for immediate download on Kindle (if you want a paperback copy email her at one of the addresses provided below). Prescriptions is published under her pen name, B.B. Fortune.

Prescriptions For The Soul

Sepia has several interracial romance novellas scheduled for release in the Coffee and Cream series in 2015. They will be followed with another series of novellas called Green Tea and Chocolate specializing in interracial romance between Black women and Asian men.

We discussed the power of Black women exerting their personal preference for the race or ethnicity of the men they want to date and marry. Who are these people who believe they have to right to dictate Black women’s choices?? Pfffft!

We also branched into a conversation about the power derived from seeing positive images of Black women being celebrated and loved. We appreciate seeing the visual forms, and salute those who positively portray Black women in books, blog posts and articles.

Sepia is brilliant, funny and passionate about Black women living well. What a wonderful conversation!

(If you can’t see the podcast player, click here or here).

To listen on Sound Cloud, click here.

shareasimage_SexyIRCouple3Sepia is a huge supporter of interracial/multicultural romance erotica. Being the product of a multicultural marriage she understands that love is not always black and white (no pun intended!) but that people need and want love and sometimes that takes them across cultural and racial lines.

Coming from a family of Griots (storytellers) her desire is to entertain her readers with humor, wit and lots of love woven into her stories.

A native of New York, Sepia currently resides in Southern California. Her passion is to uplift and encourage others through her writing, teaching and speaking.

Contact Sepia by emailing her at irromancebysepia@gmail.com.
