A White Man Who Loves Black Women

July 18, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway 1 Comment

White Man Loves Black WomenSinger. Songwriter. Composer.

(and a Magician, too!)

Link A. Valiant holds all these titles, yet there is another title of which he is most proud: Swirler.

That’s right – Link Valiant loves Black women, and in this podcast episode he discusses the why and the how.

When Did He Know He Loves Black Women?

The Chicago native tells us he came to this realization between the ages of 18-19 and shares the events in his life that led to his discovery.

At the end of the show, Link even sings a few bars from a ballad that he wrote – a Black woman is his muse, of course!

You can also listen to the show on Sound Cloud.

There IS Life After Divorce

July 17, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

60195_354774127946947_1480382695_nDivorced – or in the process of getting a divorce? Do you have a friend or relative who is facing divorce?

Well, there is LIFE after divorce!

I had the wonderful opportunity to converse with Wilma Jones, Founder/Publisher of the Living Happier After blog and Founder/Leader of the Living Happier After Facebook Community.

Jones is a speaker and author of the book, Living Happier After: 20 Women Talk About Life After Divorce. Her goal is motivating and empowering women to live better, not bitter, after divorce.

photo

The conversation treads into some deep waters – covering the themes of affairs, deceit, betrayal, change, forgiveness, healing, self care, moving forward and truly living happily after.

I’ve never been divorced, yet I have suffered the effects of a broken relationship. Wilma’s tips, pointers and insight is just as applicable to “break up” situations. Listen, learn and be inspired!

You can listen to the show on Sound Cloud:

To check out Wilma’s Facebook community, click here. Subscribe to her blog and visit her website by clicking here. You can find Wilma on Twitter at @LivingHappierAf.

In addition to her wonderful book, her FREE ebook – A Short Discourse To A Kick-ass Life is a great read!

Entrepreneur & CEO Shun Jackson-Shell

July 2, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

Shun Jackson-ShellRecently on the podcast I had the pleasure to chat with Shun Jackson-Shell, CEO of ShunJack, a virtual assistance and small business consulting practice. Through ShunJack, she provides a range of services that include administrative business support, website development, social media management, and graphics and designs.

Shun has sterling credentials. She graduated twice from Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Masters of Arts in Management.

Currently, Shun is just 5 classes away from completing her MBA at Texas A&M-Commerce. Woot! Woot!

Through her education at Dallas Baptist University and Texas A&M-Commerce, Shun has learned the true meaning of what it takes to serve others. In the future, she plans to use a portion of her company profits to support causes that cater to the families of U.S. veterans and single mothers.

If you’re a Black woman entrepreneur, you’ll find this show particularly interesting. Shun is very transparent about her journey, and speaks candidly about the mental processes she undertook to position herself for success.

Near the end of the podcast, Shun shares an interesting perspective on Black women Swirling, and talks about her experiences with Swirling in The Big D – Dallas, TX.

This Radio Executive Loves Black Women!

June 26, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

Jeff Lyons 2I tell you, we are on a serious roll over here in The Swirl World!

The emails and in-boxes on Facebook are coming in hot and heavy, and we’re beyond excited by the bevy of men who want to make know their preference of dating and marrying Black women.

We caught up with Jeff Lyons, a busy radio executive living in Oxnard, CA.

Jeff traces his romantic preferences for Black women back to his high school days, and he was happy to tell Adrienne and me all about it.

We were especially excited to speak with Jeff because he also recently became a member of The Swirl World Team. In addition to joining us on future podcasts, Jeff will also be writing an advice column called “Just Ask Jeff.”

Got a question about interracial dating, mating and relating? Just Ask Jeff! Send your questions to Podcast@TheSwirlWorld.com.

Learn more about Jeff on the podcast:

Podcast Episode 008: Irish College Student Patrick J. Browne

June 22, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

One of the things I LOVE about The Swirl World is the fact that we’ve been blessed to make international connections with guys from around the world.

Guys like this gorgeous, green-eyed hottie:

Patrick J. Browne 2

In The Swirl World, we’re all about building relationship, not tearing them down.

In addition to having Aussie Michael Miocevich on our team, we’ve also been blessed with Patrick J. Browne, a college student currently living in Dublin, Ireland.

By the way, Patrick’s Irish brogue is the sexy voice you hear at the beginning and end of each of our podcast episodes.

In addition to serving as our “Go to” guy for all things audio/visual/technical, Patrick also creates content on The Swirl World’s Facebook page.

Ah, that Patrick! He’s such a cutie:

Patrick J. Browne

Patrick reached out to us last year, informing us that he loved The Swirl World and wanted to participate in a greater capacity.

He’s been on our team ever since and it’s safe to say he holds a special place in our hearts – Adrienne calls him her son and that automatically makes him my godson.

We had a blast with him in this impromptu conversation.

WARNING: There is a LOT of laughter going on in this episode!

“I Love Black Women!”

June 19, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

Mark Custard 3Adrienne and I enjoyed a great conversation with Mark Custard, a White guy who proudly proclaims, “I love Black women!”

Mark’s a native of Buffalo, NY and has dated Black women almost exclusively since 9th grade.

He makes some interesting observations – namely, that in his first interracial relationship he didn’t care or pay any attention to the ethnicity of his girlfriend – what he enjoyed was all about how much fun they had and how she made him feel.

Give the podcast a listen.

Good news:

Mark is joining The Swirl World team with a new column, “On Another Note.” He’s also going to join us on some upcoming podcast episodes. Woot! Woot!

Lorraine Spencer – “Interracial Blogger Pioneer”

June 11, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway 1 Comment

Lorraine SpencerAdrienne and I hold the utmost respect and admiration for Lorraine Spencer, an interracial blogger and pioneer in the IR blogging space.

We think so highly of Lorraine that we wholeheartedly agreed that she would be given the honor of serving as the very first guest on our podcast.

We simply can’t say enough good things about her: Lorraine is a wife, mother, blogger, author and mentor.

She doesn’t brag on her connections or accomplishments, but she’s worked with the imitable IR blogging pioneer Evia Moore, publisher of  Black Female Interracial Marriage (considered one of the “Mother Ships” of Black women’s interracial blogs).

Lorraine has also worked with Karyn Langhone-Folan, best-selling author of “Don’t Bring Home A White Boy” fame.

Lorraine is the author of two children’s books:

The Spider In My Mommy’s Car!

and

I Like Polka Dots On My Pizza!

Lorraine also has a book for adults scheduled for release on June 17 entitled When Family Does You Wrong.

Her Facebook page “Swirling and Marriage” has hundreds of fans, as does her Pinterest page.

For inspirational photos and stories of interracially married couples, read Lorraine’s blog at Swirling And Marriage.

For well-researched, informative and entertaining posts, read Lorraine’s blogs under the pen name “Swirl Queen” over at Beyond Black And White. You can also chat with her on Twitter @ForensicMommy.

Lorraine drops knowledge in our podcast with her. What an honor and privilege to have her as our first guest!

How To Change Your Life – Part 2

June 5, 2014 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

Perth Western Australia

Stagnant? Afraid? In a rut?

In this week’s post, Mike shares the “How To” steps he used and is using to change his life.

Mike says:

Step One

First, ask for help if you need it. Here at the Swirl World we are more than happy to help you out. Michelle and Adrienne have done as much for me, and I will try my best to help anyone who asks for it.

It’s easier for a person standing on solid ground to help someone out of a swamp than you pulling yourself up by your will alone. Often the people helping you up are people just like you – they know what being trapped feels like. They know the way to get out, and accepting their help is no weakness.

Step Two

Secondly, we’ve got to be open to forgiveness. Forgiveness, not only just for those who have hurt us in the past or who may even be hurting us in the present, but also forgiveness for ourselves.

You are a human being, so you’ve made mistakes. We all do. But let’s not let the mistakes of our past crush our futures. If you keep carrying that burden, when you hit hard trials the burden is likely to pull you down further than if you had left it behind.

Focusing constantly on what you think you have done wrong and how it has brought you to your present state isn’t going to do anything to help you do things right in the future. Instead, you’ll remain stuck in the swamp.

Step Three

Make a conscious decision to move past any shame. The shame we feel because of our previous choices can even make us believe that we deserve to be stuck where we are.

It’s a vicious cycle: Shame makes you feel you deserve to be where you are, this crippling belief renders you unlikely to call out for help, and you wind up staying where you are, even when help is available – the help that will be freely given and enable you to get back on solid ground.

Do This For Me

I’d like to get you to do something real quick. Imagine all your troubles as being that same burden. All those life decisions you made, missed opportunities, fear that you’ve missed your chance, or that you’ll never be able to get where you want to be in life.

Put them all in a big, heavy pack in your mind and feel its weight on your shoulders. Pretty heavy, huh? Makes it kind of hard to move and change your direction doesn’t it?

Now imagine a hole opening up behind you, and the pack suddenly falling from your back and being swallowed up and sealed, never to hold you down again.

All your worries, troubles and misapprehension for the future has now been taken off you. That’s forgiveness.

It means we get to begin again, at any stage, and take the opportunities given to us.

Choose To Move Forward

Swirling is going to be daunting to a lot of people, and lots will feel weighed down by the things that have happened previously. Don’t let it. Take this moment to stop, consider where you are, and drop all the negativity that impedes you.

It is never too late to make a change, and you are always better off leaving it behind and choosing a better path in life. I know I have, and I invite you to join me.

Cheers,

Mike
