#86| A Good Sense Of Well-Being

March 27, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageSSSGCharles86M

It’s the end of the week, and hopefully it’s time for you to wind down and get ready for the weekend.

As you review your week, what did you accomplish? Are you now enjoying the fruit of productivity – or are you experiencing frustration because you fell behind on your tasks and goals?

If you feel like you had a “bad week,” think of at least one thing that you did well – at least one thing you did correctly. Focus on that one thing and make a conscious decision not to beat yourself up over whatever went wrong.

Focusing on the positive will help you to get centered and reestablish a good sense of well-being.

Whatever happened (or didn’t happen), you can recover – you will recover.

There’s always next week to get back on track, right?

The Swirl World Team is committed to sharing 365 days of inspiration in 2015. Our goal is to help you stay motivated and inspired by bringing you positive, uplifting images and corresponding thoughts.

We’d love to FEATURE YOU in one of our Inspiration Daily posts! If you’d like to be featured, please send a nice, clear photo to InspirationDaily@TheSwirlWorld.com.

#84| Write It Yourself!

March 25, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageMechalRoe84M

Reading is one of my absolute favorite things to do, and writing is a close second.

I can think of few places I’d rather be than in a library or bookstore.

I’m especially proud of the fact that here in The Swirl World, we feature a number of authors who have decided to take Toni Morrison’s advice:

If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, you must be the one to write it.

Mechal Renée Roe grew up as a child from a mixed shade family. She looked for a book that addressed some of the things she experienced with her hair – a book that celebrated the uniqueness of Black women’s hair in all its glory.

She couldn’t find the book she was looking for – and today, she’s the author and illustrator of Happy Hair!

To listen to her story and learn more about her book, click here.

So, what about you? What do you want to read? Have you been able to find it?

If not, why not write it yourself?

#82| Strive For Excellence

March 23, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageBlackWomanExcellence

When we think of Oprah and her successes, knowing she attributes her determination to strive for excellence as the determining factor of not only what she achieved, but for how she was received.

Yes, in the world, school and in the workplace we will encounter all the “isms” – racism, sexism, ageism – all of those.

Even though we encounter the “isms,” we don’t have to allow them to define us.

How we carry ourselves, the goals we set, the way we perform – we determine the quality of our delivery.

We make the choice to strive for excellence; therefore, we make the choice to succeed.

Here’s to Oprah – and here’s to excellence!

#76| So Good!

“I find love stories satisfying when you can see the work – when you can really watch people find each other and fall in love, a little bit at a time. I like slow burns.

Falling in love is so good; why would you want to rush it?”

~Rainbow Rowell

In case you missed it, check out Kylar and Katia Kline’s love story, “What KKK Can Teach Us About Love.”

It’s so good!

(And just so you know, “KKK” stands for “Kylar & Katia Kline!”)

Loving Black Women Is Not A Fetish – It’s A Preference!

March 16, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway 1 Comment

African Tribal beauty face

A bit of time has passed since we presented an edition of Mondays With Mike, featuring our good friend and Team Member, Australian Michael Miocevich.

When we began corresponding with him on The Swirl World Facebook page, he told us,

“I am a white guy from Western Australia, and I have always been attracted to black girls/women. At my first school social I danced with a girl from South Africa, and I never forgot it, or her. I have met and dated a lot of girls, but I never fall as hard as I do for Black women.”

Mike started writing a column for us and became a member of our Team.Since then, he’s been busy – working and doing things like being on national Australian television to discuss interracial dating.

You go, Boi!

Mike slowed down enough to chat with our Men’s Editor Mark Custard for a special segment of The Swirl World Podcast – The Men’s Edition.

Mike doesn’t hold anything back as he talks about his love for and appreciation of Black women.

He says unabashedly that his love for Black women is not a fetish – it’s a PREFERENCE!

What Black woman doesn’t appreciate knowing that?
