Having a support system is a wonderful thing, and for many people it’s a luxury.

As you consistently move toward your goals, you may find that fans and friends become few and far between.

No matter – you don’t need a fan club to achieve your goals.

At the end of the day, you always have to be your own motivation.

Join in the Fray: At what point in your life did you learn you didn’t need a fan club?

The Swirl World Team is committed to sharing 365 days of inspiration in 2015. Our goal is to help you stay motivated and inspired by bringing you positive, uplifting images and corresponding thoughts.

About Michelle Matthews-Calloway

I'm a native Louisianan currently living in Dallas, TX. I have a B.S. degree in marketing, an MBA and a PhD in higher education administration. I love writing and research, and also thoroughly enjoy reading and working out.

I am passionate about cultural/ethnic diversity and interracial relationships; so much so that my dissertation focused on these concepts. I'm a widow, and I started dating interracially a few years after my husband passed away. In addition to blogging about interracial relationships and social issues, we also provide a podcast available on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, iHeart Radio, Sound Cloud and Stitcher.

You can also find me on Twitter or Instagram @ASwirlGirl.

Do you love vintage photos and history with your pop culture? Them come and join me and Podcast Co-Host Adrienne London Leach on Facebook at Facebook.com/TheSwirlWorld. If you love our military, come and show our warriors some love at Facebook.com/Military Swirl.

In The Swirl World we celebrate and elevate Black Women - mind, body, soul and spirit!™

TheSwirlWorld JeffSt You know, in a way i wasn’t really late. Probably better that i caught on when i was ready and did it because i really believed in doing that, vs doing that because it was an in-thing. When i went back to New York Summer ’71 to visit, saw a bunch of my school friends, and for the most part it was interesting how they tended to retrench and seemed to already be aging fast while i was onto something new and free.

JeffSt What’s that tried and true saying? Better late than never! LOL!

TheSwirlWorld JeffSt Thanks. The die was indeed cast. I stuck to conservative mores, appearance and politics through my college years, mid-late ’60s, in the face of a generational revolt. And then, when the tide had passed and  most people  started moving back towards the mainstream,,…  i turned into a long-haired radical Deadhead. 🙂

JeffSt It takes a lot of courage to stand up for anything in school, particularly junior high and high school. Far too many students just follow the crowd, taking on the views of the “popular” people and engaging in groupthink just to fit in. Though your views may have evolved, the die was cast as far as you being unafraid to be outspoken about what you believe.

In 9th grade, 14 years old (in New York pubic schools at the time, ’61-2, this was the last year of Junior High), i came out forthrightly as a political conservative, to the chagrin of my social studies/home room teacher, a lefty, and pretty much all the other students. My fan club was an empty set. 🙂 Looking back at the stuff i said and wrote (i still have a couple of my papers(, i was a totally ignorant fool, espousing stuff i learned from my parents and a very selective reading list provided by them. But at least i wasn’t afraid to stand up to the crowd for what i thought was right. Most of those opposing me were pretty ignorant too.
