He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not…

March 10, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

Strolling Down Memory Lane

How many of us can remember playing this game as a child? It seemed so sweet at the time. Well, that’s if the last petal ended in “he loves me.” Some would take it at face value, while others would immediately search for another flower.

It was so common to play this game, back in the day. Older ladies would smile sweetly at a young girl, slowly picking off each petal. Perhaps it transported them back to their younger days, when they too wondered if their childhood crush loved them.

What a sweet stroll down memory lane! But how many of us still play this game today – desperately trying to figure out if the object of our affection loves us? The harsh reality is if you still have to play the game as an adult, chances are-he loves you not.

When A Man Loves A Woman

I know this is a hard pill to swallow. Everyone wants to know for sure they are loved. However, we should remember that when a man loves a woman, she will know it. My father walked 18 miles to see my mom. That’s love. Constant texts and calls, that’s love.

Love shouldn’t leave you in a state of wonder. Any man who does this to a woman does not love her. I repeat, if you have to question whether or not he loves you, he doesn’t. Don’t go searching for another flower. Don’t try to rationalize a missed phone call or text, as “oh, he’s just busy.” People make time to do what’s important to them.

Live And Learn

I found myself in the “he loves me, he loves me not” battle. Trust me when I say, it is a losing game. It will have you on an emotional roller coaster until you learn to accept the truth. If you are not given the time and attention you deserve, let it go. Pick up the pieces of your heart. Cry is you must, but move on.

If you focus on loving yourself that “loves me not” may turn into “he loves me.” If not, then at least you didn’t compromise your integrity or lower your standards, which isn’t easy if you’re a woman like me.

Having standards is well worth it. You’ll be able to look back at the situation and realize that even if he doesn’t love me, I love me; and that is enough.

Is This TMI – Too Much Information?

March 9, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

CHONILLALast week we gave you Part One of “Chatting with CHONILLA,” Sherley Joseph and Clove Roy of Montreal, Quebec, a.k.a. CHO & NILLA.

Everybody should!

Go ahead, lighten up – smile . . . even act silly if you want to.

Have fun!

Chatting With CHONILLA – Part 1

March 4, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

Clove-AND-Sherley

Whew . . . !

The upload of Podcast Episode 062 (and the next two upcoming podcast episodes) have been a long time in the making.

Y’all, I’m not even going to tell you when we recorded this podcast with the one, the only, Sherley and Clove aka CHO & NILLA of Montreal, Quebec.

Yep – CHONILLA.

CHONILLA!

Let me just say, Adrienne and I interviewed Shirley and Clove early in our podcast journey (we launched June 9, 2014).

We were such newbies, and thrilled to have these veteran interracial podcasters to come on our show.

Sherley and Clove have been blogging and podcasting  from Canada for years, and we were thoroughly geeked out to have them on our show.

We wound up chatting for almost two hours, and it’s taken me with my anal self this long to get their show edited and up.

*Hangs head in shame*

I know they forgive me, though (thanks, Sherley and Clove!), and we’re happy to finally present our conversation with them.

Shucks, it’s almost time to have them back on!

*Grins*

If you don’t see the podcast player, click here to download Part 1. To listen on the podcast site, click here.

To listen on Sound Cloud, click here.

CHONILLABe sure to go check out Sherley (@Sherasaurus on Twitter) and Clove (@Clovasaurus on Twitter) on Facebook and Twitter and subscribe to their podcast.

They’re a riot! Woot! Woot!

PS – Our shout-out for this episode goes to Rosetta Thurman of Happy Black Woman. Be sure to look Rosetta up on Facebook, Twitter and on her website, HappyBlackWoman.com. We <3 you, Rosetta!

#58| No Competition

February 27, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageKarenAndAlli58F

So, who’s your best friend?

Is it someone from your childhood, or possibly someone from high school or college?

Did you meet your best friend at church, or on the job?

When you have a true friend, you don’t have to worry about competing with him or her.

There should be no competition, because you want the absolute best for them – and you know they want the same for you.

You can share your hopes and dreams without fear; cheer them on as they reach for success.

There’s no competition, because “they got you” – and you have them.

#51| Keep Looking Up!

February 20, 2015 By Michelle Matthews-Calloway Leave a Comment

shareasimageEnidMbabzi51F

The work week has drawn to a close and we’ve finally reached the weekend.

(I for one am extremely happy it’s Friday. We were off Tuesday for Mardi Gras so mentally I’ve been a day behind).

So, maybe this week you didn’t get to scratch off everything on your “To Do” list.

Shucks, maybe this week you didn’t get to scratch off anything on that list.

Nevertheless, this week, did something make you smile? Better yet, did you make someone smile?

If so, keep looking up! Tomorrow’s another day – plenty of opportunity to make a new list.
