A Brown Girl In An Anime World

Anime

noun an·i·me \ˈa-nə-ˌmā, ˈä-nē-\ : a style of animation that was created in Japan and that uses colorful images, strong characters, and stories that have a lot of action

Anime is taking the world by storm, and many of us find it fascinating.

I’m especially intrigued by women involved in anime and the involvement of Black women in particular.

Imagine my delight to discover and interview anime artist and comic-book creator Sharean Morishita of S.K.Y. Art & Design and the S-Morishita Studio.

Sharean chats about growing up as an awkward Black girl in a single-parent household, and how she found and makes her mark in the art world.

She also gives us the back story on her husband’s last name!

It’s not only Thursday, it’s Travel Thursday!

If you live in a part of the country where you are yet able to take advantage of warm weather, get up, get out there and enjoy it!

Heading to the beach, fishing at the lake, hiking (or biking!) new trails and sitting around campfires are but a few activities we can engage in to get to our happy.

Don’t care for the outdoors? Well, there’s always a library, museum or bookstore you can retreat to.

Whether you have time for a full-blown vacation or a quick day trip, traveling – across town or across the world – helps you to “get to your happy.”

Today’s post features the Harrell family. For them, the beach represents an ideal place for getting in some much-needed family time. That carefree family time gets them to their happy.
