Join in the Fray: What’s your current favorite quote – and why?

Hey Jeff,
Love. that! We have to “see” it, and we also have to “believe” it. I think that’s a lot of what you do with your students, yes? Help them to realize the potential that lies within them, and then give them the tools (and encouragement) to bring that potential to fulfillment? Few people have the capacity for influence the way a teacher does. I’m so happy and thankful that you’re a good one! <3

Don,
Thanks for sharing your favorite quote. In John 10:34-36 Jesus quoted Psalm 82:6 in response to the religious leaders who questioned His divinity. My interpretation of the context of His statement is a bit different, yet I get your Teacher’s point. Yes, we are made in the image and likeness of God, and He gives us creative power. He also gives us divine ability to be like Him. So much is at our disposal; how much do we actually avail ourselves of? That’s the key, I think. Do we make excuses, or do we just DO what we know is right to do? Do we take risks, and TRY – or do we just walk in fear and refuse to step out and unleash our creativity (and our creative abilities)? Kinda reminds me of that line from the book Who Moved My Cheese: “What would you do if you weren’t afraid?”
(I feel a blog post coming on . . . . thanks!) 🙂

My favorite quote is from my Teacher, Dr. David M. Berry:
“Stop *begging* God, and *be* God.”
Why it’s my favorite quote is easy to say, difficult to live up to: It’s a reminder that we are all created “in the image and likeness of God.” The key word is “likeness”. We are created to BE like God, that is, as Jesus reportedly stated, we ARE Gods. And God is in us. (See Genesis chapter 2 for that.) Even Paul in the New Testament states that the body is the temple of the living God. Our task is to learn how to express our Godhood through the way we live our lives, as demonstrated and taught by the Nazarene carpenters’ son. “No one comes to the Father but by me.” This is an exhortation to live as HE lived, to do as HE did, with love and compassion for all living things, indeed, for all things created by the Father.
