If you reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home. –James Michener
I love to travel.
If you say, “Let’s g—,” I’m saying, “When?!” before you even get the sentence out of your mouth.
Though I’m big on advocating the advantages of traveling, even I can think of a time when it’s better to stay at home.
I agree with James Michener – if you’re going to go somewhere and reject the food, ignore the customs, fear the religion and avoid the people, you might better stay at home.
In other words, if you’re going to be negative, fearful, critical and insensitive, keep all of that to yourself and Just. Stay. At. Home.
And you know what? Michener’s sentiment holds true if you hold those kinds of feelings concerning people of a different ethnicity or culture than you.
We live in a global society, which means we’re all interconnected – whether we like it or not.
I love living in a global society – how about you?

Yep, one of the weekly music shows. He is very sensitive about certain topics, thought i that when i said Jerry Garcia neglected certain songs because he was “messed Up,” meaning emotionally messed up, that i was referring to problems with hard drugs, which i wasn’t.

What’s that old saying about assuming?? 🙂
Was this a music show?
Jeff S. says
We often seem to think alike, even if we articulate these thoughts differently.:That’s why clarification questions are good.:-) A friend of mine in fact just wailed on me for a comment i made in my review of the show we both went to last night, and did so without asking me what i meant. Instead he assumed i meant A, when i totally did not.

I’m laughing at myself because in my first draft I actually defined what I meant by “global society” (which is the first definition you listed) and then I deleted it. I geek out on words and have a tendency toward overkill by providing TMI, when my goal is to provide a short, easy read. 🙂
In The Swirl World we’re all about connections, connections, connections!
Jeff S. says
If by global society you mean connections between people which lead to links traversing the planet, with people getting to know people elsewhere better, yeah. If it’s globalization, the turning of the entire world into a uniform strop mall with small differences in surface appearances to create some sort of a sense of “authenticity,” that i cannot be happy about.
