Took a while, but i found one,, it’s actually outside where the weekly show i go to happens, a friend of mine organized a flash mob to do some “dancing in the streets.”
Do you know of any YouTube videos I could look at demonstrating this type of dance? *Intrigued*
The dancing that i do at the music event i go to weekly. As i’ve mentioned elsewhere (i think, the music of the Dead or Jerry Band includes covers of R&B, blues, rock n’ roll and traditional music tunes as well as originals spun off these sources, with lots of jamming based upon jazz ideas such as modal improvisations. I play guitar, so i think of what different instruments are doing, think of what i’d play if i was trying to fit in, move that energy from my fingers to my entire body, and then use the ideas of aikido, being centered and flowing with energy, to create dance patterns which involved a lot of rotation but also different hand, body and feet motions, while also blending with the energy of people dancing by me or just passing through. Ideally, my motions are at one with the music as it comes in waves. There are couples that are just absolutely experts in creating a dance that observers would think is rehearsed, except it can’t be given how spontaneous the music is (making it impossible to know ahead of time where things are going). Often it’s quite amazing to be in the middle of a dance-floor-full of people doing it, though they don’t all have my approach, of course, they’re not all people who play guitar and who have taken aikido.:-)
Hmmm, what kind of dancing??? *Raises eyebrow*
Good one, Michelle. And another thing to ask yourself: will throwing a fit solve this problem?
I took aikido for three years. I’ve never had to actually use it for self-defense, but the biggest lesson was how to live my life. Don’t try to stop force with brute force, turn the force against itself , channel it away, blend around it, and *stay centered,* It’s worked well for dancing as well, incidentally.
Jeff, I agree – that sounds like a good day! I find that I’m able to do what you described when I choose to not take things (or myself) too seriously. My brother employs this strategy: He asks himself, “Will this matter 5 years from now? One year from now?” And of course, the answer is usually, “No.” He says if the answer is no, then . . . . .Pfffft!
An amazing day? One during which i don’t have a fit before 2PM.:-)
Seriously? One during which it doesn’t seem to mater if i encounter adversity, for some odd reason i can simply bounce off whatever obstacles seem to get in my way, rather than get entangled or wrecked by them, in fact i can literally laugh things off.
