You change my world . . . with just one smile.
And you know what?
That saying is not only true for the one you love. You potentially can change the world of anyone you come in contact with, just by sharing your smile.
What are you waiting for?
Smile!

Jeff, I’m so sorry to hear that. Though on the one hand I understand the wariness many women feel when random (to them) men smile at them, I’m saddened by the need they feel to be wary. I’m sure you’ve seen the videos of women trying to simply walk down the street while fielding harassing catcalls and lewd comments. Unfortunately, So much of what the “bad guys” do makes it hard for the decent guys to be seen, heard and taken seriously.
People speak negatively of the South, yet I have to say I’m happy that speaking and smiling is not obsolete in many places here in Louisiana, at least not yet. Men have no qualms about making eye contact, giving a smile or a nod, and saying hello – largely because women are doing the same thing. They’ll call you Cher (which means Sweetie, honey, baby, etc.) or Boo in a minute! 🙂

I often try to share my smile, Usually, my reward is a snarl. I actually got a smile back from a city worker today, coincidentally a black woman. But generally in my town (Berkeley, Ca(, where smiling at strangers was quite common when i first arrived in the ’70s, is nowadays treated with suspicion, like you’re a predator or a scammer or crazy. Smiling at women has a particularly high failure rate, and smiling at black women even higher. An older longhaired :”white” guy is not the person most women, especially black ones, like to get a smile from, i guess.
